Snowball fight in New York’s Washington Square turns violent as NYPD officers are targeted, leading to ongoing investigation.
NYPD Investigating Washington Square Park Snowball Fight Turned Attack
What started as a massive snowball fight in New York’s Washington Square Park on Monday took a turn when several NYPD officers were targeted with snowballs and chunks of ice. Several officers were injured, with some needing hospital treatment for cuts and one being struck in the eye.
The NYPD Commissioner, Jessica Tisch, condemned the incident on social media, describing it as “disgraceful” and “criminal.” Tisch added that detectives are currently investigating the matter to identify those responsible for the attacks on the officers.
While New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani acknowledged the incident as a “snowball fight,”🤯 the Police Benevolent Association is calling for a stronger condemnation from the city’s leadership.
Despite the mayor’s stance, the NYPD is continuing its investigation and has released photos of two suspects, both of whom are believed to be in their late teens or early 20s.
