The NYPD has arrested Gusmane Coulibaly, 27, for his alleged role in a widely publicized attack where a “disorderly group” pelted police officers with ice and snowballs in Washington Square Park earlier this week.

Coulibaly was taken into custody this morning after being identified as one of the individuals who targeted uniformed officers during a mass snowball fight that escalated into a criminal assault.

Coulibaly was previously arrested less than three weeks ago for an attempted robbery within the New York City transit system.

Despite that recent felony charge, he was at liberty when the park assault occurred, a point highlighted by police unions that have criticized the city’s approach to repeat offenders.
