Financial giant to establish global headquarters in a 55-story tower, set to boost NYC economy by $5.9 billion.

American Express to Build New Global Headquarters at 2 World Trade Center

American Express has announced plans to construct a new state-of-the-art global headquarters at 2 World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan.

The financial services giant will be the sole owner and occupant of the new 55-story tower, which is expected to be completed in 2031.

The building, located at 200 Greenwich Street, will span nearly two million square feet and accommodate up to 10,000 employees.

Designed by Foster + Partners and developed by Silverstein Properties, the tower will feature over an acre of outdoor space, including greenery-filled terraces and gardens.

The project is designed with advanced smart-building technology and fully-electric systems, aiming for LEED certification.

Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2026.

The project is estimated to contribute approximately $5.9 billion to the New York City economy and create over 3,200 construction-related jobs.

American Express has been based at its current headquarters at 200 Vesey Street since 1986 and will remain there until the new tower is ready for occupancy.
