Iran and U.S. Make Progress in Nuclear Talks

Iranian Foreign Minister reports serious, productive negotiations with the U.S. on nuclear and sanctions issues.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on today’s talks with U.S.:

“Well, today, I can say it was one of our most serious and longest rounds of negotiations. We had a session of nearly four hours this morning, and another session of about two and a half hours this afternoon.”

I can say that during these several hours of long and very intensive discussions, good progress was made. We entered very seriously into the elements of an agreement, both in the nuclear field and in the area of sanctions.”

“Regarding some issues, there is now a significant level of understanding. Naturally, there are still differences of opinion on others, but perhaps more than ever, there was a visible seriousness on both sides to reach a negotiated solution.”

“We agreed that technical teams will begin technical reviews starting Monday in Vienna at the International Atomic Energy Agency, with the assistance of the Agency’s experts, so we can reach a framework and structure for some of the technical issues that then aligns with the political demands of both sides.”

“Additionally, it was decided that the next round of negotiations will be held very soon;likely in about a week.”

“Overall, as I mentioned, I can say this was one of our best rounds of negotiations;one of the most serious and the longest.”
