CIA Intelligence on Khamenei Helped U.S. and Israel Time Iran Strike, Report Says

According to The New York Times, the CIA had tracked Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei for months, building confidence in his likely locations and routines.

U.S. analysts then learned that a rare Saturday morning meeting of senior Iranian officials, including Khamenei, would take place at a leadership compound in central Tehran. The CIA shared what people familiar with the planning described as “high fidelity” intelligence on his position with Israeli counterparts.

Officials familiar with the decisions said that the United States and Israel altered the timing of their planned attack to take advantage of this information. Originally intended for nightfall, the strike was moved to daylight to match the meeting, creating what one source called a “window of opportunity” to eliminate top regime figures and kill Khamenei.
