According to sources familiar with the move, SpaceX has waived Starlink subscription fees for Iran, allowing anyone with a receiver already inside the country to access the service without payment. While Starlink is officially banned in Iran, tens of thousands of receivers are believed to have been smuggled in over time. The move comes as mass demonstrations continue across the country, with crowds calling for the downfall of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Activist groups warn that the death toll from weeks of unrest may be in the thousands. Donald Trump has publicly encouraged Iranians to continue protesting and said he may personally contact Musk to help restore communications. Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump praised Starlink’s capabilities and said the administration is looking at ways to support connectivity inside Iran. Iranian authorities are reportedly attempting to jam Starlink signals and have seized satellite equipment, accusing users of espionage and sabotage. Despite this, digital rights groups confirm Starlink access is active and playing a critical role in bypassing the blackout.
