The IDF reported completing a wide-ranging assault on key Iranian strategic defense assets, including an advanced SA-65 air defense system in the Kermanshah area of western Iran. Military officials said the strikes inflicted substantial damage on Iran’s air defense network, with the objective of increasing Israeli Air Force operational flexibility over Iranian territory and weakening IRGC capabilities. Released footage also showed Iranian personnel targeted while preparing missile launchers aimed at Israel.
The operation was overseen by Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir together with Israeli Air Force Commander Maj. Gen. Tomer Bar and other senior officers. Zamir said Operation Roaring Lion commenced at dawn Saturday and characterized it as a complex, high-intensity campaign following rapid but thorough preparation. He conveyed confidence in the pilots and commanders tasked with executing the mission.
According to Zamir, the strikes are being carried out in coordination with the United States military as part of broader joint planning efforts. He described the campaign as a decisive move intended to dismantle Iranian military capabilities considered a persistent threat, noting that Israel’s air, naval, and ground forces remain fully deployed and prepared for potential escalation.
