Just In – Lebanon Bans Hezbollah Military Operations Immediately
Lebanese Prime Minister Nevvaf Selam declared on March 2, 2026, that all Hezbollah military and security operations are now illegal and must cease immediately. The government has called on members to surrender their weapons to enforce the ban.
Selam emphasized the move is necessary to prevent Lebanon from being drawn into further regional conflict. “These activities are illegal,” he stated, adding that those responsible for attacks would be held accountable.
The decision follows reports of rockets launched from Lebanon into Israel, prompting Israeli northern sirens and subsequent airstrikes targeting sites linked to Hezbollah. The Israeli army said it conducted operations across northern and southern Lebanon to neutralize perceived threats.
The PM condemned the rocket attacks as “irresponsible” and stressed that Lebanon would not allow the country to be pulled into new military adventures. Selam outlined that measures are underway to identify responsible parties and ensure the protection of the Lebanese populace.
This incident marks the first time since U.S. and Israeli operations against Iran that rockets were fired from Lebanon toward Israel. The strikes coincided with broader regional escalation following Israeli and U.S. attacks on Iranian positions.
Selam underscored Lebanon’s commitment to safeguarding civilians, noting that attacks had impacted areas with Lebanese residents. He called for restraint and emphasized the need for compliance with the new ban to reduce risk to citizens and avoid further military retaliation.
