Saudi Arabia Warns of Military Response as Qatar Halts Natural Gas Production
A source close to the Saudi government told AFP that the kingdom could launch a military response if Iran continues its “concerted” attacks on Saudi oil facilities.
The warning follows a drone strike on the Ras Tanura refinery, one of the world’s largest oil hubs, which caused a fire and a partial shutdown of operations.
While Saudi officials have noted they are currently in a “watch and wait” mode, they affirmed that any targeted campaign against their energy infrastructure would be met with a swift and overwhelming response, potentially including strikes on Iranian oil facilities.
In a simultaneous development, state-owned QatarEnergy has officially announced the suspension of all liquefied natural gas production and associated products.
This decision comes after military attacks targeted the country’s primary industrial hubs at Ras Laffan and Mesaieed.
The halt in production from one of the world’s largest LNG exporters has already triggered a massive spike in global energy markets, with European natural gas prices surging nearly 50% in a single day.
