The U.S. Treasury Department announced new sanctions against Iran, targeting five senior security officials and the Fardis Prison over their role in the violent repression of nationwide protests. The move also sanctions 18 individuals and entities tied to Iran’s shadow banking networks used to launder oil and petrochemical revenues.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the U.S. is tracking funds Iranian leaders are allegedly moving through global banks, warning that Washington will continue to cut the regime off from international financial systems while it abuses its own people. The action comes as President Donald Trump maintains a renewed “maximum pressure” campaign in support of the Iranian protesters.
